This message was sent to faculty, staff, and students on the morning of May 8.

Dear campus community,

ICON, the University of Iowa’s Canvas product, is now available. Though some functionality (including integration with Office 365) is currently unavailable, students and faculty may begin using the platform at this time.

ITS is continuing to monitor the situation and is working with the vendor, Instructure, to restore full service in a safe and secure manner. You can read more about Instructure’s response and find an FAQ on their website

Please consider taking additional steps to minimize disruptions including:

Instructors: Find resources to keep teaching during technology disruptions.

Students: Download course materials from ICON you may need for assignments and final exams.

We recognize these disruptions are frustrating as we head into finals week and thank you for your patience. Please continue to check the ITS Service Alerts webpage for outage updates.

Sincerely,

Kevin Kregel
Executive vice president and provost

Dear campus community,

At this time, ICON, the University of Iowa’s Canvas product, is unavailable for users because of a national cybersecurity issue affecting numerous universities across the country.

Our ITS team is actively monitoring the situation and remains in close communication with the vendor as they work to resolve the issue safely and restore service.

We recognize how disruptive this is—particularly as we approach the end of the semester—and we are working closely with faculty to ensure flexibility and continuity for our students.

Additional guidance will be shared as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience,

Kevin Kregel
Executive vice president and provost
