The University of Iowa has a long history of supporting anti-violence on campus and in the community. We remain committed to preventing sexual misconduct, providing support to survivors, ensuring a fair process, and holding offenders accountable.

However, a recent Sixth Circuit ruling involving Ohio State University significantly extends the statute of limitations and greatly expands the scope of individuals allowed to bring claims, including those who are not even enrolled in, or employed by, the university. These changes may discourage schools from conducting thorough investigations of misconduct and divert resources from the students protected by Title IX.

Therefore, the University of Iowa has signed onto an amicus brief supporting Ohio State’s pending petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse the Sixth Circuit’s ruling. The University of Iowa joins 22 other institutions and the Association of American Universities in signing the brief.
