The University of Iowa is strongly committed to freedom of expression and the first amendment. That extends to our students, faculty, and guests.
We understand some of the views expressed through free speech can be offensive to members of our community. We may disagree with guest speakers and even say so publicly.
We challenge our students to embrace diversity, have difficult conversations, and be respectful of everyone that uses our shared space. However, we will not tolerate speech that incites violence.
We will maintain a safe and inclusive campus for people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Inclusiveness has been our hallmark—and our strength—for more than a century, and that will not change.
If we experience incidents that violate UI policy, it will result disciplinary action.
